Driving EU Integration and Governance Reform: ReSPA Director Meets with Minister Ibrahimović

Director Handjiska-Trendafilova met with Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, Ervin Ibrahimović, to discuss avenues for deepening collaboration in advancing public administration reform and enhancing regional cooperation. The meeting reaffirmed Montenegro’s strategic role in regional initiatives and its steadfast commitment to the EU integration process.

Director Handjiska-Trendafilova expressed sincere appreciation for Montenegro’s continuous support and hospitality as the host country of ReSPA. She congratulated Montenegro on its tangible achievements in the EU accession process, emphasizing ReSPA’s recognition of the country’s dedication and aspirations to become the 28th EU Member State by 2028.

During the meeting, the Director briefed Minister Ibrahimović on ReSPA’s current strategic priorities, which place a strong focus on closer cooperation with EU Member States and intensified regional exchange. She also highlighted ReSPA’s upcoming activities, including hosting the next meeting of the Network of Directors of Institutes and Schools of Public Administration (DISPA) and advancing support to EU neighbourhood countries.

“Our discussion with Minister Ibrahimović was inspiring and forward-looking. Montenegro remains a valuable partner, and I am confident that our joint efforts will continue to yield meaningful results. Strengthening public administration is a shared priority, and through robust partnerships, we are shaping governance that delivers for citizens,” stated Director Handjiska-Trendafilova.

Minister Ibrahimović expressed his appreciation for the fruitful cooperation with ReSPA and confirmed the Ministry’s interest in further strengthening ties. He emphasized areas such as the development of a regional diplomatic academy and expanding the involvement of EU experts in regional initiatives as key opportunities for deeper collaboration.

This high-level exchange reinforces ReSPA’s ongoing mission to foster effective, inclusive, and modern public administration systems across the Western Balkans, grounded in shared values and a common European future.
