European Integration and Accession Negotiations

We invigorate the good governance and Western Balkans administrations’ capacities for an accelerated EU accession process

We work on building a critical mass of knowledgeable and skilled public servants dealing with the European Integration process to progress in proper planning, efficient implementation and monitoring of the European Integration agenda and bringing the region closer to the European Union.

The improvement of public administration efficiency is crucial for the success of the EU accession process – the Enlargement methodology reconfirms the central role that public administration reform plays in the fundamentals of the enlargement process. In this regard, it is necessary to make additional efforts to operationalise and systematically use national structures and instruments for EU integration coordination, including strengthening the capacities of public servants engaged in this process, especially the accession negotiation talks.

The Western Balkans administrations face similar challenges in meeting conditions defined in the EU accession framework and in implementing and absorbing EU funds. That is why we foster regional cooperation and connect the region with the EU institutions and practitioners to share good practices and increase capacities to navigate the integration process, accession talks, and implement funding instruments of the Union.

The support of the European Commission is vital in this area, and ReSPA will continue to provide a regional platform between the EU institutions and the region.
Besides fostering regional cooperation, we develop tailor-made solutions for public administration dealing with EU integration process and accession negotiations and provide flagship capacity-building actions such as Seasonal Schools for EU integration, executive training on the EU agenda, Workshops on absorbing EU funds as well as forms of interventions such as direct on-demand support mechanisms, mobility schemes, peer-to-peer learning, coaching, and mentoring.

We will continue strengthening regional capacities to ensure the "EU policy first" approach in policy planning, setting the overall capabilities for accelerated EU integration, better absorption of EU funds, and deepening regional cooperation. Our final goal is to bring the region closer to the EU for driving and leading future change in the Western Balkans.
