AI Governance in Practice: Developing Secure and Innovative Frameworks
As part of continued support for digital transformation and responsible innovation in public administration, ReSPA and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) are jointly organising the training: AI Governance in Practice: Developing Secure and Innovative Frameworks in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 15–19 June 2026
This five-day face-to-face, certified training, preceded by mandatory online preparatory modules, is designed for policymakers, regulators, and representatives of public servants from the Western Balkans and the Eastern Neighbourhood.
The programme aims to strengthen institutional capacities for governing artificial intelligence in a secure, ethical, and innovation-friendly manner, positioning AI governance as a strategic leadership and public policy issue rather than solely a technical matter.
The training combines foundational knowledge with immersive, hands-on practice. Participants will:
- Complete a mandatory self-paced online course on AI governance fundamentals prior to arrival;
- Explore lifecycle risks such as bias, transparency, cybersecurity, and data governance;
- Examine global and regional frameworks, including the EU AI Act, OECD AI Principles, and UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of AI;
- Engage in simulations, regulatory sandbox design, risk-mapping labs, and cross-border negotiation exercises;
- Co-develop a 5-year AI Governance Roadmap tailored to their institutional or national context.
The methodology is practice-oriented and based on design thinking, peer exchange, and policy prototyping. Attached is the Provisional Program. The final one will be sent to the nominated participants.
